We are really happy to share this new coffee with you, from an incredible producer in San Agustin!
Pastor is a 3rd generation coffee producer. His lineage goes back to some of the earliest producers in the area. Now at the age of 50, he has spent his entire life as a coffee producer, starting at the age of 18, and has established himself as a well-respected grower. We find this evident in the cup and feel truly lucky to be able to work with him.
His farm, El Placer, is 4 Hectares and started with only 4,000 Caturra trees after years of working alongside his parents who grew Caturra and Typica. Pastor has fought through difficulties and continues to play an instrumental role in the development of specialty coffee in the area.
He was an original member of the famous Los Naranjos Association, a group that bound together in 2000 to find better market access for their coffee. This group, now up to 90 members, has fought to receive a stable price for their coffee. While this has helped Pastor improve his farm and create a more organized approach to his practices, he was only able to sell his coffee as a micro-lot in 2018, having the rest be sold in the group's blend.
Now Pastor is interested in growing more as a producer and establishing relationships with roasters in a way he's never before. He is very motivated and wants to have his name recognized in the international market as a producer of great quality.
For us, this is clear as day. We feel his coffee is among some of the best coming from this region and are so thrilled to start to build a relationship with him.
